An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Analyst – Benefits Operations, to join our Accounting Operations team on a permanent basis. The role operates in a hybrid capacity, based in Darlington.

The role
The core purpose of the role is to support the production of Accounting Operations activities with a specific focus on processes that support the Benefits Business Unit (both Rail and TPA). The person will be accountable for operational tasks including transaction processing, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close processes including journal review and approval.
The person
You will be responsible for inputs into the sub-ledger and general ledger close process within a robust financial controls framework. You will identify areas of improvement across the processes and systems you directly work with including where other stakeholders interact with those processes. You will also assist with external and internal audit requests and ad hoc investigations, supporting our Finance and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be studying towards an accountancy qualification and have good understanding of working with accounting operations such reporting and month end processes. Previous experience within pensions would be nice to have, but isn’t essential.
Key to delivery in this role will be close collaboration with other teams within Finance, mainly Financial Control, as well as with upstream Benefits administration teams. Taking ownership and responsibility for identified issues and discrepancies and ensuring they reach resolution is a must. You will be organised in your approach, demonstrating good time management skills to ensure delivery to agreed timescales. You will be keen to share your ideas with the team but also have passion for learning new ways of working.
