Better Space Opened in July 2021, Better Space is an affordable co-working and community space developed in partnership between City Ventures (City St George's Enterprise Education department) and Islington Borough Council, to support local businesses with a focus on Social Enterprises. We now have more than 100 members accessing the space and are undertaking ongoing work to generate social value in Islington. The Community Assistant at Better Space is the first point of contact for members and visitors, providing exceptional support to ensure a thriving workspace community. This role is integral to delivering an engaging and welcoming environment, promoting Better Space's mission to drive local economic recovery and create social value. Main Responsibilities The role will act as the first point of contact for existing and potential Better Space members by being based on the reception and responding to initial enquiries in person or via email. Community Member Support/ reception duties Greet members and visitors, ensuring a professional and friendly first impression. Respond to member inquiries, onboard new members, and collect feedback from departing members. Maintain the workspace, ensuring it is fully operational and stocked with essentials. Facilitate connections between members, supporting collaboration and engagement. Manage bookings for desks and meeting rooms via coworking software. Events support Respond to event space and meeting room inquiries via email, phone, or social media. Assist in organizing member events, including creating materials, managing sign-ups, and setting up spaces. Coordinate tours for potential members with the Community or Workspace Manager. Handle invoicing and payment tracking for events and room bookings. Marketing and Promotion Contribute to newsletters, social media posts, and digital communications to nurture the Better Space community. Organize member interviews and Q&As for inclusion in newsletters and community boards. Monitor and engage with comments on social media channels to build online presence. Governance Ensure adherence to Health and Safety standards, updating members on space policies and guidelines. Handle administrative tasks, including data management using Nexudus software. Generate monthly reports on member activity and space usage. Report maintenance or operational issues to the Operations Manager and university service desk Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience (Desirable). Knowledge of coworking spaces, community management, or accelerator programs (Essential). Understanding of the social enterprise landscape and the needs of startups and SMEs (Desirable). Experience Proven customer service experience, ideally in a coworking environment (Essential). Event planning or management experience (Essential). Experience managing sales leads and digital marketing campaigns (Essential). Support for entrepreneurship programs like accelerators or demo days (Desirable). Skills and Abilities Strong networking and community-building abilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Effective organizational and project management skills. Confidence to represent Better Space internally and externally. Attention to detail in handling data and developing communications.
