Job Description
Qualified Social Worker, Wrexham Council, Children Looked After Team - Must be a Qualified Social Worker with a minimum of 2 years+ UK Social Worker experience within a Children's Social Work team.
The team works extremely well together to ensure the safety of children under the close supervision of a supportive Team Manager.
The responsibilities will include:
1. Experienced, flexible, enthusiastic and conscientious Social Worker with experience in managing complex cases (court cases, child in need of care and support cases, child protection cases, looked after children cases, adoption cases, transition to leaving care cases).
2. The successful candidate will be part of an experienced, proactive and supportive team and will assist in its approach to providing a social work service to children and young people who are looked after by the authority.
3. The aim of the service is to secure permanence for children who become Looked After and to ensure that children and young people are in placements which meet their needs, reflect their right to safety and security, and encourage them to reach their full potential at every stage of their development. This includes supporting all looked after children and young people to meet their full educational potential and to promote their health, including their mental health. If the care plan for the child is for adoption, the team will work closely with the North Wales Adoption Service to identify a match and place the child with a new family. The primary focus of the work is to safeguard and promote the child’s wellbeing.
4. Working with looked after children moving into independence, completing pathway assessments and plans, and supporting young people with practical skills, access to training and education.
5. You will be working closely with other agencies which include Education, Housing, Youth services, and health.
6. Have excellent communication skills, proven experience of working as part of a team, previous experience of working with children and young people, as well as a drive and passion for supporting families and improving outcomes for children, ensuring their safety and wellbeing is paramount.
7. Expected to respond to the needs of children and their families, working within statutory guidelines, policies and standards such as the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and the Social Services and Well-being Act 2014.
8. Liaise with other professionals.
9. 37 hours per week (flexible by negotiation).
10. 3 month Temporary Contract.
11. Start date subject to DBS and reference clearance.

The successful candidate will need to hold a DipSW or equivalent, must be registered with the HCPC, have a current DBS, and be a car driver.
