This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
The Role

As Diagnostic and Fusion Engineering (DFE) Group Lead, you will play a pivotal role in being responsible for all aspects of staff management, development and delivery of Project Engineers working on cutting edge Fusion Diagnostics. The group lead works on a variety of electro-mechanical diagnostics focused on analysing plasma for both UK and international Fusion machines.
The role includes:
1. Agreeing personal development plans.
2. Setting objectives and providing job performance feedback.
3. Ensuring that the group delivers to the required quality standards and deadlines.
4. Implementing techniques, methods and processes to improve quality and delivery.
5. Reviewing and approving technical documentation including drawings, specifications and contracts.
6. Providing clear and positive leadership for the group by fostering a positive can-do attitude and encouraging the free flow of knowledge within teams to promote good succession planning.
7. Supporting the technical development of staff through mentoring, coaching and direct teaching.
8. Ensuring a consistent and proportional approach to project management and engineering within the group and wider organisation.
9. Supporting the Plasma Sensors and Control Unit in department planning, agreeing/ advising on long-term priorities and budgets.
10. Creating and delivering commercial opportunities related to the DFE group's capabilities and product line.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Project Management - initiating and leading new ideas/concepts, coordinating the group's design processes, manufacture, and installation of equipment.
2. Acting as a point of approval for technical solutions/designs.
3. Submitting budgets and business cases to deliver projects, recommending capital expenditure.
4. Ensuring that the group Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) culture and working practices align with UKAEA requirements.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
1. Proven leadership experience through a track record of success in team and project management of engineer/technology work.
2. Experience of line management of technical teams (scientific, engineering, technology etc).
3. Degree or equivalent experience in relevant Engineering field, e.g., mechanical engineering, precision engineering.
4. Experience of working with technical documents, manufacturing specifications, and contracts.
5. Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people, working with and interfacing with projects, internal and external customers.
6. Experience of motivating and using resources efficiently, prioritising and delegating with clarity.
7. Experience of delivering key engineering/technology milestones within agreed time frame.
