The post holder will work closely with the Maternity Risk and Governance Lead to develop and facilitate implementation of the Maternity Risk Management Strategy and provide specialist risk management advice to staff within the maternity directorate.
They will be responsible for the ongoing monitoring of the maternity risk register, monitoring and investigating local and serious incidents, using root cause analysis where appropriate. They will be proactive in their approach to risk prevention and will help to encourage an open and transparent reporting culture that enables the organisation to learn lessons and prevent incidents from reoccurring. It is expected the post holder will work clinically on a regular basis to maintain clinical credibility.
To deputize for the Maternity Risk/Governance Lead in their absence or as appropriate.

Qualifications
* NMC registered midwife post registration experience including recent clinical experience
* Evidence of post registration professional development
* Specialist knowledge of quality and patient safety issues acquired through training/experience.

* Working in a variety of settings utilising all midwifery skills
* Facilitating change management and innovation
* Experience of risk assessment
* Recent experience as a senior midwife
* Use of Datix Risk Management System
* Experience of investigating incidents
* Experience of designing and delivering training
* Statistical analysis and presentation of complex information
* Clinical audit
Analytical and Judgement Skills
* Ability to rapidly assimilate a range of complex (often clinical) information and make expert judgements.
* Has a non-judgemental and fair approach to investigating incidents and complaints
* Ability to influence and persuade senior members of staff, including clinicians, to review and alter practices, where necessary.
