Role profile: The engineering challenges this role addresses provide opportunities to work on transformative technologies to migrate real-time market exchange systems to new technology stacks, to help simplify and improve flexibility in our global low-latency networks. ROLE SUMMARY: Engineering position is within a distributed team, which operates both in-office and remotely, project focused deliveries, opportunities to develop automation, pipelines and develop new technologies for our production environments. Transformation technologies include pipelines for CI/CD and systems orchestration, migration tools and automatic testing testbeds to improve quality of testing for system changes Primary focus on Linux based servers, bare-metal and containers, with transformation migrating some of our on-prem workload into public and hybrid clouds Vendor engagement to solve issues and develop next generation platforms In conjunction with the wider team, responsible for break/fix activities within development environments, numbering approx. 5,000 individual systems/switches globally Expertise in resolving capacity and performance issues on complex systems configurations Detailed knowledge/understanding of network stacks and tuning options Systems Engineer provides Linux-centric engineering, Virtualization solutions and Message Broker solutions supporting the Realtime Development environments Systems Engineer has the ability to work autonomously, document and track progress via JIRA/SharePoint, and close communication with wider team and partners via scrums Accountable for Developing, Managing, Maintaining systems infrastructure tooling and automation testbeds for Realtime development and QE assets Also responsible for Analysis, Definition, Design, Construction, Testing, Installation of changes within the environment in accordance with governance guidelines WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Works closely with planning and technology architect to assure all systems are in line with IT long term strategy. Participates in project planning sessions with clients, business analysts, and team members to analyse requirements and provides design recommendations for complex systems. Build, Test designs and code for handling RT sophisticated container workload deployments, including upgrades, capacity management, monitoring Conducts unit testing and implements multi-functional systems ensuring system fits needs of client and business. Works with project teams to define and design scope for each project. Develops new multi-functional software systems using focused software development processes. Evaluate and make recommendations for buy versus build decisions. Provides design recommendations, develops application and custom integration solutions including major enhancements Responsible for writing complex design specifications. Collaborates in setting development guidelines. Prepares and presents status updates for various projects. Reviews effort to ensure compliance to application architecture standards. Research new and emerging technologies. Evaluates and makes recommendations for new tools, technologies and platforms to be implemented. Provides technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to engineering & application development teams. Requires full technical knowledge and thorough understanding of business application of the project. Acts as team leader on projects but is likely to be an individual contributor at this level. Utilizes and knows the latest on multiple programming languages and software technologies. Acts as an industry class authority in a cross section technical subject area. WHAT YOU'LL BRING: Essential skills… Expertise with: Linux RHEL 8.x/9.x, MS Windows server 2012 – 2022, Message Broker (e.g. Solace) Experience with HP enterprise-class hardware (DL3x0 Proliant series Gen9/10/10/11) Experience with AWS EC2 images and Containers, Cloud Watch, Kubernetes, Route53, etc Active Directory design and administration. Security agents and policy management Advanced knowledge of Windows and Linux-based hardware platforms Thorough understanding of network storage and TCP/IP networking Able to work in an ambitious, fast-paced environment with little daily supervision Expected education/experience: BS/MS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, and/or Equivalent work experience (Minimum 3 years experience as a Linux, Windows, VMWare and Solace systems engineer or designer in an enterprise environment) Desirable skills… Experience with VMWare ESX Server (vSphere) and Virtual Center (v6.x and 7.x) Advanced knowledge of Windows and Linux-based scripting facilities Perl, C, PHP, VBScript, or Python development skills desired Experience with Cyber tools for endpoint/vulnerability management Experience with automation and orchestration (ex PagerDuty, HPE Image Composer) Experience in a market-data environment a plus Experience with HPE and Dell rackmount and frame hardware Has created, maintained and deployed via Automation - Windows and Linux “standard build” images Soft skills Good communications skills, good relationship management, good project management skills, solid specialist technical knowledge in relevant field.
