Contract Type: Temporary - 6 months (potential extension)
Pay Rate: £20.28 per hour (PAYE)
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
The Role
Walsall Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Prevention and Reintegration Senior Officer (PRSO) to join the School Attendance Support Service. This key role involves managing a small team of Attendance Officers, providing expertise in supporting vulnerable children, including those with high levels of absence, missing from education, or experiencing emotionally based school avoidance.
You will champion the needs of vulnerable learners, ensuring schools meet their statutory responsibilities and that children achieve positive educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage a team of Attendance Officers, supervising and allocating cases to ensure every referred child's needs are met.
· Lead on complex cases, focusing on early intervention to prevent costly, intrusive measures.
· Challenge and support schools to fulfil their educational responsibilities.
· Provide advice and guidance to schools, parents, and professionals on best practices for supporting vulnerable children.
· Facilitate school-to-school collaboration and share best practices across the education sector.
· Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and current legislation for vulnerable learners, including those with special educational needs.
· Advocate for vulnerable children, ensuring their voices are heard and their full potential is achieved.
Requirements
· Educated to degree level or equivalent (NVQ 5).
· Proven leadership and managerial experience, with evidence of continued professional development.
· Strong understanding of the needs and entitlements of vulnerable children, including those with behavioural difficulties, special educational needs, or emotionally based school avoidance.
· Comprehensive knowledge of school systems, statutory guidance, and current legislation.
· Experience working in schools and/or local authorities, with expertise in supporting vulnerable learners.
· Skilled in multi-agency working and building strong relationships with stakeholders.
