Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
The University of Hertfordshire is planning to establish a new MBBS programme in the Department of Medicine at the School of Health, Medicine, and Life Sciences with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026 pending GMC approval.
We have a very enthusiastic core team already working on the project, with City St George’s Medical School, University of London, acting as our sponsor. We are now seeking to expand our team to develop and fully implement the MBBS programme, with the addition of 4 new roles. Each role is 0.5FTE and applicants are welcome to apply to more than one post to make a full-time position. Newly appointed staff will receive full support from our existing team.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Academic Admissions Lead - MBBS programme will oversee the recruitment and admissions process for the MBBS programme, collaborating with the central admissions team, international office, and MBBS team to ensure an efficient and fair selection process for initially international and then home applicants. The Academic Admissions Lead - MBBS programme will ensure adherence to university regulations, national admissions guidelines, and GMC requirements, leading on the design and implementation of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) and additional assessments as required.
The Academic Admissions Lead - MBBS programme will be part of the MBBS academic team and expected to provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership on the MBBS programme and pastoral and academic support for home and international students. Representing the MBBS programme in the UCAT consortium and liaise with NHS partners, external exam bodies, and university committees to enhance recruitment strategies.
The Academic Admissions Lead - MBBS programme will work as an integral part of the department of medicine and will be a professional lead for their subject in terms of strategic contribution to programme development and departmental strategy. Actively participate in the assessment of students, relevant research within the department and support the ongoing development of qualifications.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will have proven experience of teaching, supervising and assessing clinical/medical students. Possess breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching and research programmes with the ability to assist in curriculum design, implementation, assessment and promotion of the course. Able to demonstrate knowledge of student management systems and processes, and an understanding of the educational needs of students and cultural awareness.
The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate and present effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues. Demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, dealing effectively with conflicting demands and priorities to meet deadlines.
Qualifications required
Educated with an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) or MBBS.
Educated with a Postgraduate qualification or equivalent, i.e. Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) in a relevant field or significant experience and with a Membership of the relevant regulatory/professional body.

In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS checks may require renewal in line with policy.
