The post holder will provide supervisory support to the team of Medical Laboratory Assistants in blood sciences specimen reception, facilitating the blood sciences department in delivering an efficient and smooth running diagnostic service. Responsibilities include delivering a high-quality data input service, ensuring high standards of practice are achieved and maintained, organizing rosters, and assisting in the training and development of entry-level MLAs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform a range of routine healthcare science activities under supervision.
2. Handle basic sample reception and processing duties, including receipt, barcode labeling, and preparation of samples for analysis, loading samples onto analyzers or other laboratory equipment, and sample archiving.
3. Carry out clerical tasks, including data input of patient demographics and test request information, while maintaining clerical records.
4. Adhere to departmental health and safety policies when handling biological samples and associated paperwork.
5. Work flexibly in response to service needs, which may include extended working hours and participation in a 24/7 service.
6. Report to the Biomedical Scientists in Blood Sciences.
7. Model compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership culture within the trust.
The post holder may be required to work at North Tyneside, Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Wansbeck, and Hexham Hospitals.
Please note that the post holder must not work outside their defined field of competence.
