Job Summary

You’ll work with innovative technology and solutions in the Fire and Security sector. You'll learn hands-on how to design fire and security systems that protect individuals and businesses. Mentored by experienced design engineers, you'll gain real-world experience with access to top training facilities.
What You’ll Do at Work
* You will join the design department that specializes in creating fire and security systems for industrial, commercial, and residential markets.
* An experienced design engineer will guide you, teaching you the fundamentals of design engineering.
* You will familiarize yourself with tools like AutoCAD, Revit 3D modelling, and other design-specific software to gain direct experience in system design.
* This apprenticeship is a highly technical role where you'll create detailed designs and calculations for various fire and security systems, complying with industry and legislative standards.
* You will visit client locations, collaborate with colleagues to conduct surveys, and develop design plans based on the gathered information.
* This role will require occasional travel to clients on a national basis. The company will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals.
* The apprenticeship combines work experience with college education, aiming for a project controls apprenticeship. Experienced design engineers will closely supervise your on-the-job training, many of whom have also undergone our apprenticeship scheme and can help you navigate through the process.
Where You’ll Work
You will be based from our Glasgow office at Johnson Controls, 2 Finch Way, Briadhurst House, Strathclyde Business Park, Bellshill, ML4 3PE.
Your Training Course
You will gain a level 10 SCQF in ‘Engineering Design and Manufacture’ qualification.
Your Training Plan
You will complete your qualification alongside working full time at Johnson Controls.
Requirements / Essential Qualifications
Scottish Higher: BBCC or equivalent including Higher in Maths and a Science or Technology.
Foundation Apprenticeships: We accept selected Foundation Apprenticeships, in combination with SQA Highers, for entry to our degree programmes. Your Foundation Apprenticeship will take the place of one SQA Higher qualification for our standard entry requirements and will be treated as equivalent to a B grade at Higher.
Modern Apprenticeships: If you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF level 6 in a relevant discipline, this would be equivalent to two Highers at B.
Full Driving licence required.

Other Requirements
This exciting opportunity will involve traveling, so you need to be comfortable traveling to customer sites and staying away occasionally.

After This Apprenticeship
Upon completion of this apprenticeship, there are many internal opportunities within the company. Many of our previous apprentices have become lead design engineers and take control of their own team and projects.
What We’re Offering
Salary: £14,920.

What’s Next?
Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification, you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will participate in a practical assessment, meet the team, and have an interview.
Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
