Job summary
We are a busy GP surgery looking for a Minor Illness Practitioner to join our team. Our Minor Illness team are an integral part of the practice providing urgent, on the day care for our patients.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a GP or other clinical setting with the qualifications, experience and aptitude to work within a primary care team of GPs and Allied Healthcare Professionals and may come from a range of backgrounds from paramedic, pharmacy or ANP. Alongside GPs, our clinical team includes Paramedics, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Mental Health Workers, a Bicester wide frailty team, Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.
Main duties of the job
Core Responsibilities:
1. Assessing and triaging patients, including same day triage both on the telephone and face to face
2. Managing a patient list each day
3. Covering triage on designated days
4. Providing treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or making necessary referrals
5. Managing undifferentiated undiagnosed conditions
6. Identifying red flags, underlying serious pathology and taking appropriate action
7. Using complex decision making to inform diagnosis, investigation, and complete management of care within the broad scope of practice
8. Working as part of our multi-disciplinary team
9. Completing relevant training
10. Advising patients on general healthcare and promoting self-management
The successful candidate must be able to:
Perform investigatory procedures as required; Confidently collect pathological specimens; Perform and interpret ECGs; Chaperoning duties as needed; Advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks; Ensure information on the system is recorded accurately and in a timely way; Maintaining equipment in accordance with infection control best practice; Communicate effectively with patients and where appropriate, family members and carers, complex and sensitive information regarding their physical health needs, results and treatment choices.

Pay is dependent on experience. There is no weekend working, a generous pension scheme and five weeks paid holiday in addition to Bank Holidays.
