A vacancy has arisen within the Operating Theatres for a Theatre Porter, working 15 hours per week between Monday to Friday. Working days to be discussed at interview.
As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department, the post holder will play a vital role in the day-to-day operation and smooth running of the department. They will accomplish this by ensuring the facilitation of timely movement of patients between the wards and the Operating Department as directed and assisting with the movement and maintenance of equipment and materials both within the department and the hospital in general.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Transport of patients between the Wards, Theatre Reception Areas, and Post Anaesthetic Care Units.
2. Transfer of patients between beds/trolleys and theatre operating tables.
3. Preparation and checking of all theatre trolleys to ensure they are fit for use.
4. Assist in general cleaning within the department and maintain operating trolley storage areas in a clean and tidy manner.
5. Monitor levels of medical gas cylinders and change when required.
6. Provide a messenger and delivery service both within the department and ensure effective communication with other departments.
7. Collect and transfer specimens to the Pathology Laboratory as directed.
8. Collect blood as required.
9. Collect any items required from other departments as needed.
10. Check used linen bags in changing rooms and change as necessary.
11. Demonstrate a caring manner towards patients at all times and assist with moving and handling of patients after training has been provided.
12. Collect equipment belonging to the department from wards and other areas.
