Outline of the role
As a Site Engineer you will primarily be involved in the daily inspection of the quality of the work completed onsite. Alongside the site team, you will initiate continuous improvements to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget. This will ensure the customers’ expectations are met, whilst aligning activities within industry standards.
As a Site Engineer you will be responsible for:
1. Build strong working relationships with the Engineering team and sub-contractors.
2. Assist in managing systems to enable the progress of work to be reviewed against time, quality, dimensions, and quantity.
3. Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, i.e., drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork etc.
4. Provide engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
5. Responsible for setting out works ensuring they are constructed within allowable tolerances.
6. Regularly check the setting out points and benchmarks and check that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
7. Ensure RAMS have been produced and briefed to the sub-contractors in advance of works starting. Responsible for producing RAMS for self-delivered work and reviewing RAMS for sub-contracted works.
8. Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control, to ensure accurate construction of the work.
9. Take a proactive approach to managing Health and Safety on site.
10. Co-ordinate and supervise temporary works as required.
11. Implement a regime of test and inspection plans for all works ensuring that all works have been signed off by the client through the completion of inspection and test records.
12. Produce 3-week lookahead programmes for your work activities, report on progress weekly and be able to provide mitigation proposals for any delays.
13. Commercial awareness – understand the scope of the works and advise on any works that are required outside of the scope of works so as costs can be recovered from the client.
Required Skills and Experience
1. Educated to degree standard in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
2. Technical knowledge of construction and best practices.
3. An appropriate and valid CSCS / CSR card.
4. Hold a Full Manual UK Driving License.
5. First Aid at Work.
6. Sound knowledge of engineering, latest building regulations, legislation, and Health and safety.
7. Experience in producing lookahead programmes and providing information to the planner for updating the project programme.
8. Previous experience in one or more of Roads & Bridges, Water, Marine, Renewables or Horizon.
9. Working knowledge of the complete Microsoft Office Suite.
10. Good communication skills (verbal and written) and able to engage with all stakeholders at all levels.
11. Excellent attention to detail and meticulous planning and organizational skills.
12. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
13. Self-motivated. Capable of working on own initiative and able to motivate.
