The Tax Reporting Director will be responsible for managing group tax reporting and UK corporate tax compliance obligations and will report directly to the Head of Group Tax. Given SmithNephew's global operating model and geographical scope of activity, this is an outstanding opportunity to join the Group tax department of an innovative and ambitious company, with a highly collaborative culture, providing a variety of interesting and challenging tax work. The candidate will have strong tax knowledge and communication skills across a broad spectrum of stakeholders. This opportunity would particularly suit a candidate looking to deepen experience of group tax reporting in a SOX environment, partnering with a broad range of business stakeholders. The role is principally based in Croxley, Watford with the opportunity to work remotely 2-3 days per week. What will you be doing? Elevate the tax department’s value and visibility within the organization. Own, lead and be accountable for design and operation of effective and efficient group tax reporting processes and controls. This includes driving compliance with, and maintenance of, relevant SOX controls including all required documentation. Coordinate group tax reporting outputs from across different regions (e.g. setting standards, controls, policies, risk and reporting frameworks and tax data strategy). This requires collaboration with regional teams that manage preparation of financial tax reporting and forecasted tax cash flow, reporting via the group reporting system (using Hyperion and Longview), to support consolidation for periodic and annual tax disclosures. Manage completion of group tax audit and leading external auditor relationship. Manage quality, accuracy and timely execution of UK tax reporting and compliance obligations supported by outsourced providers (including Patent Box and RDEC). This includes leading the relationship with controllership and relevant business contacts for sourcing of tax, finance and other data for compliance, controversy, risk, reporting and business partnering. Manage relationship with HMRC & manage special projects as required. What will you need to be successful? Education: Bachelor Degree preferred Licenses/ Certifications: ACA or ATII/CTA The successful candidate will have trained in a Big 4 accounting firm and have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience, ideally having worked 2-3 years in-house with a global MNC. Relevant industry experience would be a plus. Positive outlook, confident and robust under pressure Proactive self-starter with ability to prioritise and manage time effectively Strong communicator with the ability to win confidence and deal with a wide range of internal stakeholders A great team player and a desire to build a culture of performance excellence Strong computer skills including Powerpoint, Word and Excel. Experience of SAP, Hyperion, AX, TM1 and Longview, together with the ability to determine configuration requirements for the needs of the statutory accounting and tax return process, would be a significant plus You.
