We are looking to recruit into a Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist role, with opportunities for flexible and part-time working. This post is suited for a Practitioner Psychologist interested in Clinical Health Psychology and working within physical healthcare services.
There are opportunities to work within the Bariatric Psychology team and Maternal Mental Health Services team. The MMHS team consists of a psychologist, psychological practitioner, and specialist midwife, working closely within maternity services and the perinatal mental health team. The team provides psychological support focusing on Trauma, Loss, and Fear, as well as helping develop trauma-informed care within maternity services.
The Bariatric team consists of psychologists, psychological practitioners, and assistant psychologists. The service provides psychological assessment and intervention before and after weight loss surgery, working closely with other members of the bariatric MDT, including specialist dieticians, specialist nurses, and surgeons.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 7 practitioner, you will receive line management and one-to-one clinical supervision from an experienced senior psychologist within the department, and have access to CPD and support from the wider department. We work closely with University of Sunderland colleagues, providing opportunities for research and service evaluations. Psychology is highly valued within STSFT, and you will be supported to continue developing your career.
This role is well-suited to someone interested in working within physical health services and as part of a wider MDT. The post can be split across both MMHS and Bariatric Service; we would equally consider part-time work or a job share.
The role of a Band 7 practitioner will be diverse, providing opportunities to develop and consolidate core therapeutic clinical skills, as well as skills and experience in devising and delivering training, providing consultation, and supervision to MDT members. Previous experience in physical health services or with physical health conditions is not essential.
There are opportunities to be part of Specialist Interest Groups both regionally and nationally, and the post holder will be supported to develop in their role.

Job responsibilities
You will be part of the Clinical Health Psychology Services Department, working alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues in physical health services to provide direct therapeutic input for patients.
As a core component of the team, you will provide evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention to clients referred to the service. You will help integrate psychological mindedness into the wider MDT through consultation, supervision, joint working, and training. You will also have the opportunity to undertake research relevant to the service.
The service works across both Sunderland and South Tyneside, so you may work from two bases as part of your role.
The post will work between the Maternal Mental Health Service and Bariatric Psychology Service. Part-time and flexible working is available.

* HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist.
