We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Pastoral Teacher to join our dynamic team at a secondary school in Lancashire. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is committed to making a difference in the lives of students who require additional support in their core subjects, particularly Maths and English, and may have experienced periods of absence from school.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Pastoral Teacher, your primary focus will be to offer tailored support to students across Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) in their core subjects: Maths, English, and Science. You will play a crucial role in supporting students who have had extended absences from school, helping them re-engage with their studies and reintegrate back into school life.
1. Academic Support: Provide 1:1 and small group support in Maths, English, and Science to help students catch up on missed learning, building their confidence and understanding in these core subjects.
2. Pastoral Care: Build strong, positive relationships with students, supporting their social and emotional well-being. You will help them regain confidence and motivation to rejoin their peers on a full timetable.
3. Reintegration Support: Work closely with students who have experienced prolonged absence from school, supporting their transition back into regular lessons and school life.
4. Collaboration with Teachers: Liaise with subject teachers to ensure students receive the appropriate academic support and that their individual needs are met.
5. Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess and track student progress, providing feedback and reporting to senior leadership on their academic and pastoral development.
6. Encouragement of Positive Behaviour: Foster a supportive, inclusive environment where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged to succeed both academically and personally.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who is:
1. Experienced in education or pastoral support: Previous experience working with students in KS3 and KS4, particularly those requiring additional support, will be highly beneficial.
2. Knowledgeable in core subjects: A good understanding of the curriculum for Maths, English, and Science at KS3 and KS4 is essential.
3. Empathetic and understanding: You should have the ability to relate to students, especially those who may have experienced barriers to learning or personal challenges. You will help to build their confidence and guide them in reintegrating into the school environment.
4. A great communicator: Strong communication skills are essential in building rapport with students, staff, and parents alike.
5. Organised and proactive: You will need to be adaptable and efficient, with the ability to manage your time effectively across different subjects and pastoral responsibilities.
6. Motivated and positive: A positive attitude and a passion for working with young people, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
