Do you have leadership skills, with a passion for increasing access to our astonishing collection of objects housed at the Science and Innovation Park?
About us
The 545-acre Science and Innovation Park is the home of the Science Museum Group's National Collections Centre (NCC), our hub for collections management and access. The NCC is transforming how we care, manage, and make accessible over 400,000 objects in our collection and 1.5m items in our Library and Archive.
To support this work in making our collections accessible, we are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Collections Access Team Leader to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.
About the role
The Collections Access Team Leader is pivotal to providing timely, efficient and inspiring access for a range of audiences, including curators, researchers, enthusiasts, non-specialist adults, curious families and school groups.
You will manage the two Collections Access Facilitators and work in close coordination with colleagues in other teams - to ensure that objects are made available physically and virtually for curators, exhibition teams and researchers. This will involve overseeing the schedule of visits, appointments and tours as well as the enquiries system. You will ensure that all visits, appointments and tours are fully resourced, leading these when necessary. Your work will be supported and enhanced by volunteers.
About you
Joining us, you will bring experience of managing or supervising a team, with the skills to motivate and develop individuals. You will be committed to increasing access to our collection of objects and their stories and will be welcoming, warm and friendly when engaging with a diverse range people. Confidence in leading tours and/or delivering talks would be helpful, along with excellent organisational skills across a range of areas, including time management, administration, budgeting, and planning with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
