As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will have responsibility for ensuring accurate and timely indirect tax reporting in multiple jurisdictions. You will have the opportunity to step into a key technical business advisor position as our businesses expand globally both organically and through M&A.
You will have exposure to, and be expected to work closely with, key stakeholders within the business including the Group CFO and Business Finance Directors.
As a business, we operate on a hybrid working model, where colleagues are required to be in the office two days a week. This role will be based from our Bristol office (Tuesday and Wednesday). You may also be required to travel to some of our other offices, including overseas offices where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
1. General Indirect Tax compliance:
1. Ownership of all Indirect Tax filing requirements including:
2. Multiple UK VAT groups including partial exemption calculations
3. Two Irish VAT groups
4. USA State Sales Tax returns and Nexus monitoring
5. Implement and oversee indirect taxes more globally as we expand (to include but not limited to: Philippines, Swedish and German VAT returns).
2. Responsibility for reviewing contracts, products and revenue streams to ensure correct tax treatment and preparing papers to document appropriateness.
3. Take a leading role in any Indirect Tax audits/enquiries including direct consultation with inspectors and advisors where required.
4. Perform VAT health checks to ensure compliance across all entities.
1. Business Partnering:
1. Build and maintain direct relationships with key business contacts.
2. Act as internal advisor to proactively assess indirect tax issues associated with new commercial business plans and geographical growth.
3. Provide Indirect Tax expertise to support M&A Due Diligence activity.
4. Support the businesses for all indirect tax issues associated with the integration of newly acquired businesses.
2. Tax risk management, governance and controls:
1. Advise and support the Group Tax Manager to build an appropriate governance framework and reporting mechanism for Senior Accounting Officer (SAO), Business Risk Review (BRR) and Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) regimes.
2. Critically review VAT cash forecast prepared by our offshore service centre to ensure accuracy of assumptions and calculations.
3. Ownership and review of the indirect tax balance sheet accounts.
4. Monitoring and implementing any relevant changes in indirect tax legislation.
This role will benefit from the support of one colleague based in Kochi and will also hold the associated responsibilities for directly line managing that colleague.
Essential Skills/Behaviours
1. Ability to communicate complex technical topics to key stakeholders including non-finance/tax people.
2. Should have a critical mind and ability to recognise where efficiencies and process improvements can be made.
3. Proven record of supervising colleagues.
4. ACA / CTA qualified (or equivalent) with 4 or more years’ experience in Indirect Taxes OR ATT qualified with significant (6 years +) Indirect Tax focussed experience.
5. Experience with European VAT & USA Sales Tax.
