Job Overview
Radiology Physics is part of the expanding Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department, which is committed to providing a high-quality, safe, and effective service. We provide scientific, technical, and regulatory support to X-ray, ultrasound, and laser facilities across the Trust.
Main Duties of the Job
* Operate with a high level of autonomy in providing specialised scientific, technical, and regulatory expertise to the Trust and other organisations.
* Plan and manage workload and projects; prioritise work appropriately.
* Work with the Radiology Physics Team Lead to provide a safe, efficient, and effective service.
* Act as at least two of the following three statutory roles:
o Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for Radiology
o Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA)
o Radioactive Waste Adviser
* Support the chair of the Trust Radiation Advisory Committee by implementing and auditing legislation and guidance in radiation protection.
* Play a key role in teaching, training, and developing staff.
* Initiate and participate in research and development.
* Be accountable for the work of staff and students being supervised.
* Maintain RPA, MPE, RWA accreditation in accordance with legislation.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* MSc in a relevant subject
* MIPEM
* HCPC Registration as Clinical Scientist
* MPE, RPA, and RWA Certification
* PhD in relevant field
* CSci
* Management Training
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Extensive experience in diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
* Ability to prioritise and manage own work.
* Ability to supervise and manage staff.
* Ability to exercise initiative in specialist areas.
* Highly developed manual dexterity for precise measurements.
* Ability to work accurately and quickly, applying scientific methods.
* Record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Other Requirements
* To adhere to the Trust’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
* Ability to lift medium/heavy test equipment occasionally (greater than 10kg).
