Main duties of the job
Required
The Assistant Real World Data Manager will principally support the Research Data Informatics Manager in servicing requests for real-world data from researchers. The post holder will assist with initial discussions with researchers and support them through the applications process. The post holder will extract, de-identify data and disseminate the data, as well as supporting work to ensure that datasets can be identified and used for research purposes. The Assistant Real World Data Manager will also be required to support other technical and administrative activities of the Research Data and Informatics Team (R-DIT). Key duties will include:
1. Will work under the supervision of the Research Data Informatics Manager in providing an end-to-end service for providing data to researchers.
2. Will engage with researchers as customers and endeavour to provide the best possible customer service throughout the lifetime of a project.
3. The post holder will respond to queries regarding the use of Trust data for purposes other than direct patient care using telephone, the shared team mailbox or in person.
4. Will ensure that any advice given complies with Trust policies and statutory requirements for the use of Trust data.
5. Will work closely with Information Governance to ensure that all work carried out complies with data protection laws and regulations.

Key attributes that postholders will need to have will include:
* Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a wide range of general and specialised computer software/ hardware used to collect research data.
* Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of one or more computer programming languages (including SQL).
* Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of database design.
* Demonstrates knowledge of Software Engineering and its associated design methodologies / strategies.
* Ability to use own initiative, solve complex problems, make decisions.
* In depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
* Knowledge of relevant acts of parliament as they pertain to the use and abuse of computer systems, and especially the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulations.
* Knowledge of Security threats to and via computer systems.
* Awareness and implications of wider Health research issues.
* Be familiar with medical terminology.
* Working with others to ensure that all necessary permissions are in place before any data is released for use in research programmes.
* Work with staff who are unfamiliar with the use of health data, providing information about including guidance around its uses, the logic and rules involved and its limitations.
* Be able to build and maintain a productive working relationship with colleagues across corporate and operational teams within the Trust and with a wide variety of external stakeholders from academic and industrial backgrounds.

Person Specification
Experience Essential
* Expert knowledge of MS SQL server, including writing advanced T-SQL code and building SSIS packages.
* Advanced knowledge of data management, analysis and ICT tools, techniques and principles.
* NHS data standards, data definitions, classifications and performance indicators.
* Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Caldicott.
* Experience in developing computer programs.
* Experience in designing and developing databases.
* Able to trouble shoot and maintain computer systems and programs.
Desirable
* Knowledge of R/Python languages.
* Experience of quality assurance and audit programmes.
* Knowledge of Medical terminology, anatomy and epidemiology.
Additional Requirements Essential
* Ability to identify and resolve complex data problems.
* Accurate data input and manipulation.
Qualifications Essential
* Degree or equivalent level qualification in a numerate/analytical discipline or equivalent industry experience and some experience in a data management role.
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, i.e. specialist IM&T training/study/research.

* Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject.
