Herefordshire Wildlife Trust is a member of The Wildlife Trusts, a nationwide network of local trusts that work to protect wildlife in town and country. Through their care of a network of nature reserves and a range of other conservation and education activities, The Wildlife Trusts are striving for a UK richer in wildlife. Volunteers are vital not only to practical conservation tasks but also the administrative work that is required to support and promote membership, management of reserves, project work and events.

Bartonsham Meadows is our newest reserve, right in the heart of Hereford. Its proximity to where people live and work means that it provides an opportunity to engage, educate and inspire a vast number of people from a wide range of backgrounds. As part of our ‘Restoring Bartonsham Meadows’ project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund we will be delivering learning activities to children at nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across Hereford.

In this role you will support our Community Officer to develop and deliver sessions to children both at the Meadows and within school grounds across the county.

1. Support with school visits to the meadows including talking to and helping children complete a range of activities and tasks.
2. Support with in-school visits, including assemblies and after school clubs.

Skills/Qualities

1. Interest in meadows but no knowledge or previous experience needed.
2. Can commit to one day per month but dates are flexible (and will depend on bookings).
3. Enjoy working with children and young people (we can accommodate if you have a preference for or experience with a certain age group).
4. Happy to be outdoors whatever the weather.

Training

The Volunteer will receive an initial induction to the Trust. They will receive any further training required for the role as well as the opportunity to attend ad-hoc training alongside other volunteers.

Confidentiality

The volunteer may sometimes have access to sensitive or embargoed information on business issues. The Volunteer is expected to respect confidentiality and exercise discretion where necessary in line with our volunteering policies.
