Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with suitable experience of working in the area of adult learning disabilities who is interested in furthering their clinical and leadership skills. The post includes 0.60 WTE sessions (22.5 hours) as Principal Psychologist for the Learning Disabilities Psychological Professions in NELFT, working alongside the Professional Lead of the service.
The Learning Disabilities Psychological Professions covers the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Waltham Forest and consists of clinical psychologists, art therapists, behaviour specialists and assistant psychologists, with excellent ties with the Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology training courses based in London and Essex. The service has been focused on implementing the nationally driven initiatives within the field of learning disabilities and the post holder will play a strong role in developing the mainstream agenda for people with learning disabilities. The team is keen to develop trauma informed and culturally sensitive care for people with learning disabilities and their families.

Main duties of the job
1. To work with the Professional Lead for Learning Disabilities Psychological Professions towards strategic development of learning disabilities psychological services.
2. To provide, develop and manage highly specialist learning disabilities psychological interventions to patients with complex needs.
3. To provide clinical supervision to key psychologists, counsellors, assistants, trainees or other professionals.
4. To manage staff within the designated specialist care pathway.
5. To undertake some specialist clinical work and ensuring the delivery of safe clinical practices that reduce risk to service users, carers and staff.
6. To develop and maintain excellent relationships with other services in NELFT.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
* HCPC Registration
Desirable
* Experience of supervising Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologists in a Learning Disabilities Service
* Experience of managing care pathways, e.g. Behaviours of Concern, Dementia
Knowledge
Essential
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies
Experience

* Experience of 3 years or above working as Band 8a Psychologist in the Learning Disabilities Service
