Job Description:
Join SYNLAB UK&I as our Head of Laboratory Engineering, where you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing our laboratory operations through strategic engineering projects and process optimization. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, design and implement efficient laboratory workflows, and contribute to the commercial success of our services. This role demands a seasoned professional with a strong background in laboratory operations, project management, and a passion for driving innovation in a complex pathology service environment.
Responsibilities:
* Leadership and Team Management: Manage and lead a team of direct reports, ensuring accountability and successful project delivery. Conduct regular performance reviews and invest in team development. Act as an ambassador for SYNLAB UK&I with internal and external stakeholders.
* Laboratory Engineering Project Management: Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams to deliver laboratory engineering projects. Provide expertise in project scoping, business case development, and solution analysis. Manage project preparation, launch, and communication planning. Design and implement process re-design initiatives.
* Laboratory Optimization and Service Improvement: Design the reconfiguration of laboratory working practices and skills mix. Develop relationships and influence to ensure ownership of transformation. Identify and drive service improvements with relevant stakeholders. Contribute to the commercial strategy by designing onboarding processes for new services.
* Reporting and Communication: Produce clear visual materials, documentation, and data for reports and presentations. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Continue to develop expertise in laboratory engineering and service improvement methodologies. Travel to various sites for meetings.
Qualifications:
* Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Proven senior operational management experience in an acute complex pathology service environment.
* Demonstrable experience in laboratory engineering, including value stream mapping, process mapping, and workplace organization (5S).
* Track record of writing and delivering complex reports and policies.
* Experience working with senior management in a matrix structure.
* Proven ability to achieve challenging delivery targets.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
* Ability to manage and deliver to deadlines and within resources.
* Ability to develop a team of skilled professionals.
