SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Pay Scale: £100 per day
Required: September 2024
Contract Type: Full-Time until July.
GSL Education’s south Yorkshire branch is looking for an individual with a passion to support the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of young people to join as SEMH Teaching Assistant in our client schools in Sheffield.
Job summary:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, helping students overcome barriers to their education.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
* Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).
* Support classroom activities and facilitate a positive learning environment.
* Implement strategies to manage and improve student behavior.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, counsellors, and other support staff.
* Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
* Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources.
Requirements:
* A recent degree or specializations in special education, psychology, social work or a related field that is particularly relevant for SEMH teaching.
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective support strategies.
* The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
* An updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
