Key Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) – Secondary:
One-to-One & Group Support: Help SEMH students thrive by providing personalised academic and emotional assistance.
Classroom Collaboration: Work with teachers to deliver inclusive, engaging lessons and tailor learning to meet students’ needs.
Progress Monitoring: Track student achievements, identify barriers, and share insights with staff and parents.
Behaviour Guidance: Use de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to support student behaviour.
Emotional Coaching: Be a trusted presence to help students develop resilience and healthy coping strategies.
Liaison: Work closely with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure a consistent support network.
✅ What You Need to be a SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA) – Secondary:
Qualifications: A background in Education, Psychology, Youth Work, or a related field.
Experience: Previous work with SEMH students in a school, alternative provision, or care setting.
Skills: Strong communication, empathy, adaptability, and classroom management.
Approach: Calm, nurturing, and solution-focused with a passion for inclusion.
Compliance: A fully enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
