There is always something to get involved in.If you share our vision forexcellence in all that we do, wed love you to join us Due to retirement, we are looking to appoint a proactive individual to join our Diabetic Eye Screening team as Programme Manager. This post will be responsible for operationally managing and coordinating the screening programme across Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. The team plays a key role in delivering high quality ophthalmic care working closely with the wider ophthalmology directorate to provide seamless patient care. The post holder will be supported by the Directorate Manager, Clinical Director, Matron and wider clinical team. Main duties of the job The main duties of the role include the day-to-day operational management of the screening team, based at The Galleries in Washington providing screening services in a range of community venues. The role will line manage the team and ensure that resources are deployed effectively and efficiently including adherence to key performance indicators. The successful candidate will be a motivational leader and excellent communicator, seeking to continuously improve the service and provide safe and high quality patient care. Clinically they will provide expert, evidenced based advice to members of the multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting and varied role, providing a rare opportunity to shape the delivery of retinal screening services. Support will be provided by the management and clinical teams at Sunderland Eye Infirmary as well as from other regional programme leads. Job responsibilities • Line management of the team, with overall accountability and responsibility for the delivery of all aspects of patient/client care through the provision of effective clinical and managerial leadership. • To lead, motivate and support the team to facilitate best practice in both Sunderland and South Tyneside, co-ordinating and communicating between hospital and community setting in order to facilitate a safe environment in all settings. • To lead a continuously improving service, by ensuring systems are in place to support clinical governance, quality monitoring and on-going research and audit of practice • Ensure systems and processes are in place to maintain patient safety. Complete all risk assessments, records and audits to demonstrate compliance to health and safety requirements • To act as a resource for all members of the multi disciplinary team providing expert advice concerning all aspects of diabetic eye screening. • Work collaboratively with multi professional teams to ensure practice is efficient, effective, evidence based and safe. Person Specification Skills and Knowledge Essential • Good ophthalmic knowledge and awareness of the implications of diabetic retinopathy on visual prognosis • Excellent interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and be self motivated • Awareness of clinical governance issues relating to screening service • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office packages and bespoke screening software i.e. IP Optomize and hospital information systems such as HISS, Meditech and PCS. • Ability to provide teaching, supervision and mentorship in a clinical setting • Good communication skills, both written and verbal • Thorough understanding of contemporary clinical issues relating to area of speciality. • Evidence of innovation in practice • Participation in recruitment and selection process • Detailed knowledge of all screening policies, procedures and legislation. • Evidence of leadership qualities • Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism Desirable • Understanding of budget and financial control systems • Research skills Qualifications Essential • Management and/or leadership qualification at postgraduate level or equivalent experience. • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject, or willing to work towards within a given timeframe. • Evidence of CPD Physical Skills Essential • Keyboard skills • Ability to travel independently between sites.
