Job Summary: To design and develop new products for electronic systems used throughout the Aerospace and Defence, in line with detailed design specifications. Support, complete and create full product drawing packs to the highest of standards, get hands on and assist with the build of prototype units with the opportunity to see the product from conception through to full product launch and maintain it through its lifespan. Main responsibilities: Deliver innovative, optimised engineering solutions against requirements within budget and timescales. Work in accordance with the mechanical and company design lifecycles. Develop strong relationships working with other design team members, production engineering and the test team to ensure that designs can be manufactured in a timely manner with a ‘right first time’ approach. Produce 3D models which will be used for stress, thermal and pressure analysis. Produce 2D detail drawings through CREO to a company high standard for manufacturing & inspection, predominantly sheet metal and machined components, but not limited to. Create and maintain product drawing packs and product design documentation. Produce assembly drawings and compile BoMs on the company’s ERP system. Provide design for cost solutions for product development that meet with the technical requirements and Company processes for manufacture. Actively support and implement Drawing Office Procedures, maintain company Document Release and Engineering Change Request procedures. Education/ Qualifications: Technical or science degree qualified, or equivalent, with demonstrable aerospace related experience in the packaging of electronics Further education/courses associated with mechanical engineering and membership of a recognised Mechanical Institute is an advantage Knowledge and Experience: High level of competence in designing and drafting using 3D and 2D CAD tools, preferably CREO. A strong understanding of manufacturing processes and their associated cost drivers. Clear understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, machined components, and manufacturing practices.
