About the Position
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning Officer to join our Development Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and reporting on a range of development applications, providing professional planning advice, and representing the City in various forums. The successful candidate will supervise and mentor a team of Planning Officers, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and determine development applications in accordance with the City's Local Planning Framework.
* Provide professional planning advice to customers, management, and elected members.
* Facilitate pre-lodgement meetings and provide written planning advice.
* Supervise, mentor, and manage the performance of Planning Officers.
* Represent the City at State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) hearings and Development Assessment Panel (DAP) meetings.
* Prepare reports for Council and DAP applications.
* Engage with consultants and legal advisors on planning matters.
* Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with planning approvals.
* Assist in policy development and testing to meet City and Council requirements.
About You

* Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline.
* High level of knowledge and understanding of Western Australian Local Government statutory processes.
* Ability to exercise decision-making and judgment in a logical, lawful, and accountable manner.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
* Demonstrated experience in delivering high standards of customer service in a regulatory environment.
* Sound understanding of Western Australian Planning related legislation.
* Ability to obtain full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.

This permanent full-time position is a Level 8 Inside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $106,999 - $112,630 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.
