The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Education Officer to join the existing Education team.
We are looking for a dynamic museum educator to play a key role in our Education Team (Maternity Cover). In this 13-month post, you will develop and deliver unique, world-class formal learning programmes and resources for schools with a dedicated team of Education Assistants and volunteers.
The successful candidate will help bring our national, iconic collection to life in a programme that combines academic rigour with creative flair, in-the-moment flexibility with an eye always on the goal, and serious-mindedness with a sense of fun.

This position is a 13-month temporary contract, working full time, 36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday, and evening working will occasionally be required.

1. Qualifications
o A recognized teaching or related professional qualification
o Educated to degree level in history or a relevant subject
2. Work Experience
o Recent experience in developing and delivering successful formal education sessions in a museum, gallery or heritage environment.
o Successful experience of supervising and developing staff, volunteers, interns, etc to deliver projects effectively.
o Proven experience of operating budgets in a public sector museum context.
o Experience of analysing user feedback on educational programmes and resources.
3. Skills and Knowledge
o Excellent written, spoken & visual communication skills, in order to engage different learning audiences.
o Thorough and current working knowledge of the National Curriculum 16+ examination courses, and of the formal education sector.
o Sound knowledge of using PCs, Macs, and Microsoft Office software packages.
o Proven ability to plan and organize workloads effectively.
o Working knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g., Health & Safety, Safeguarding, etc.
o Ability to research and produce reports, statistics, etc.
o Sound general knowledge of British and European history.
o Willingness to learn to demonstrate historical combat techniques.
