Job Description:
The Surgical Unit at the Royal Cornwall Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to innovation and early adoption. We are looking to appoint EGS Consultants with a sub-specialty interest in Colorectal, Paediatrics, or complex interventional endoscopy. The successful applicant(s) will join an existing team of Emergency Surgeons. Our department is fully funded and supported through the National Forum for Acute Surgeons.
Full support will be provided to develop any subspecialty interests within the job plan.
Main duties of the job:
* Work with current specialty leads to build initial working patterns and operating procedures for the department.
* Develop ambulatory and alternative provision models to support patient care.
* Provide an Emergency General Surgery (EGS) service of the highest standards for Cornwall.
* Develop a specialty interest in children's general surgery, colorectal, or upper GI surgery, hepatobiliary, or complex endoscopic practice.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the EGS department.
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students in EGS.
* Fulfill duties of the weekly timetable, including out-of-hours responsibilities.
* Provide patient cover for absent consultants.
* Engage in flexible timetabling in cooperation with colleagues.
* Promote a culture of respect within the multidisciplinary team.
