The Cardiac Catheterisation Service at Medway NHS Foundation Trust is an excellent and well established service. We provide diagnostic Coronary Angiography via both femoral and radial approaches, and device implantation. We work in close partnership with St Thomas’s Hospitals – several of our Consultants having joint posts with the tertiary centre.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual, to join the team and work alongside the Senior Cath Lab Sister within the Cardiac Catheter Lab environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Carry out planned care for a group of patients with support from senior staff.
2. Recognise when changes in patients condition occur and take appropriate action including reporting to the nurse in charge.
3. Assist in carrying out extended roles under supervision to ensure best clinical practice, including acting as a scrub or circulating nurse to assist the doctor during invasive cardiac procedures.
4. Able to perform venepuncture and cannulation following appropriate training.
5. Assist in the safe transfer of critically ill patients.
6. Assist and advise support staff in the delivery of patient care.
7. Able to remove both venous and arterial sheaths following appropriate training and supervision.
8. Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly, including specific post procedural observations.
9. Undertake nursing procedures following best practice.
10. Have responsibility for the correct administration and storage of medicines according to Trust policy.
11. Monitor patients progress, work towards safe and timely transfer to either CCU or ward area, and ensure barriers to discharge are identified and acted on appropriately.
