Salary: 12.82 - £12.83 per hour (Depending on experience)

About the Role
As an Academic Support Mentor, you will play a key role in assisting primary school students with their learning, ensuring they receive the guidance and encouragement needed to achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers, you will support students in core subjects such as literacy, numeracy, and personal development, providing individualised and small-group support.
Responsibilities of the Academic Support Mentor:
* Assist in delivering structured learning activities, ensuring students remain engaged and supported.
* Provide one-to-one and small-group academic support, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
* Help to identify learning barriers and work collaboratively with teachers to implement tailored support strategies.
* Encourage and motivate students to develop confidence, resilience, and independent learning skills.
* Monitor student progress, offering constructive feedback and assisting in assessments.
* Support children in improving their reading, writing, and comprehension skills, using interactive and engaging methods.
* Promote positive behaviour and classroom engagement, ensuring all students feel safe and supported in their learning.
* Assist with lesson preparation, creating engaging learning resources when necessary.
* Work closely with parents and school staff to ensure consistency and continuity in students’ learning.
* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies, ensuring the well-being of all pupils at all times.
The successful candidate will:
* Previous experience in an educational setting or working with children (teaching assistant, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or voluntary roles are advantageous).
* A patient, supportive, and adaptable approach to working with children.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage children in their learning.
* A willingness to learn and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team, ensuring students receive the best possible support.
* University students studying education, psychology, or related fields are encouraged to apply, as this role provides excellent experience in a primary school setting.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
