An exciting vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic Dental Nurse Manager to lead a dynamic nursing team in a new state of the art clinic in Hackney providing outreach services and teaching for staff and students attached to Barts Health NHS Trust and QMUL’s Institute of Dentistry. The successful applicant will be working onsite in an outreach setting on a 60/40 split of clinical and administrative duties, feeding into an existing team of established Dental Nurse Managers who support all areas within the dental network. They will be required to work collaboratively to support the implementation of a fully functioning clinic.
The National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing and experience of working as a band 5 dental nurse is essential but experience and a good understanding of undergraduate training in an outreach setting is desirable. This role involves working independently and with a wide range of stakeholders, patients, teams and clinical staff so good verbal and written communication skills are essential as well as a professional manner, organisation skills and a flexible approach.
Main duties of the job
• The post holder will provide leadership to the Dental Nurse team on a daily basis, inspiring them with strong leadership, excellent clinical skills and a visible and exemplary commitment to patient-centeredness.
• The post holder will work collaboratively with the Lead Dental Nurse and the Matron to escalate department and staffing issues where appropriate.
• The post holder will carry out clinical dental nursing on a minimum of two days per week, ensuring credibility with the nursing team and role modelling excellent clinical nursing skills.
• The post holder will line manage the Senior Dental Nurses and an agreed number of Dental Nurses on the department.
• As well as line management of Dental Nurses the post holder will work with closely with the Senior Dental Nurses to delegate several key operational tasks to the SDNs in the day-to-day operational management of clinical services.
• The post holder will represent their department at nurse management meeting and the clinical governance group and will be expected to take responsibly for delivering agreed actions with nursing teams.
• The post holder will deputise for the Lead Dental Nurse in her absence.
• The post holder will manage several required operational tasks for their department, as set out by the Management Team. This will include, as a minimum, responsibility for ordering stock and ensuring maintenance and repair of equipment.

Essential criteria
1. NEBDN and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
2. General Dental Council registration
3. Registered as a witness on the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing programme (or be working towards this)

Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience working as a Band 5 senior dental similar NHS setting.
6. Evidence of knowledge and experience of HR processes and policies.
7. Evidence of service improvement
8. Previous experience of working in a hospital setting.

10. Responsibility for maintaining stock levels and ordering where appropriate.
