ROLE OVERVIEW //
We are recruiting a Compliance Paralegal to assist our busy Legal, Risk and Compliance department in a wide range of tasks. This is a permanent, full-time role.
The Legal, Risk and Compliance department is headed by the firm’s General Counsel, supported by the firm’s Head of Financial Crime, Head of Legal and Risk and Head of SRA Regulation, and comprises around 30 individuals. This role will report into a Compliance Lawyer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
* Assisting the Compliance Lawyers with key internal compliance processes (for example, relating to document destruction or insider lists)
* Supporting Compliance Lawyers by managing and documenting key decisions in decision logs
* Assisting with the design and delivery of Compliance training within the firm, assisting with monitoring of training completion
* Preparing and collating responses to client questionnaires and audits, assisting with initial review of client terms
* Helping to draft and update the firm’s policies and procedures and answering questions from Partners, other fee-earners and Business Services on those policies and procedures
* Supporting the Compliance Lawyers on a wide range of cross-firm projects including document review and disclosure exercises
* Liaising with a broad cross-section of individuals within the firm including Partners, other fee‑earners, executive assistants and members of other Business Services teams
* Ad-hoc legal research tasks, to support the Compliance Lawyers
* Supporting the Compliance Lawyers and Business Services with procurement related tasks and exercises – including contract reviews
* Assisting with business acceptance tasks including assisting with matter security queries and the removal of know-how, customer due diligence reviews and destruction
* Monitoring regulatory developments and keeping the team updated
* Gathering and disseminating know‑how within the team
* Pro-actively identifying potential compliance issues and suggesting ways to address them
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
* Some experience of working within a compliance function or a genuine interest in the field
* Confident and articulate communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels across the firm
* Good IT skills (including online research skills and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel) and an ability to develop an understanding of new IT systems quickly
* A strong academic background (a law degree is preferable but other candidates will be considered)
* The highest standards of professional ethics (the role necessarily involves access to highly confidential information)
* Self-motivation
* Ability to work reliably, managing own time to meet deadlines and respond quickly and flexibly to changing priorities
* Excellent attention to detail in own and others’ work
* Ability to quickly adapt to changes in procedures
* A commitment to working in a diverse team and fostering an inclusive team culture
