Job summary The Haven is a mental health crisis unit which provides a 24/7 community based, clinical environment to provide comprehensive crisis assessments, reviews and support for service users experiencing a mental health crisis and who may also be waiting for an admission to hospital and is accessible to any person aged 18 or over who has a GP or residential status in Sussex. The Haven unit provides a safe and comfortable clinical environment supported by a team of mental health staff. This affords an extended period of time (up to 23 hours) which may enable the dissipation of acute emotional crises and/or enable a comprehensive assessment to take place. The Haven will provide an alternative waiting area for service users who have been assessed by MHLT or MHAA in ED. These persons will be medically clear, accepting of an informal hospital admission or have x2 medical recommendations insitu and are agreeable to being transferred to the Haven to wait for a bed. The requirement for a bed will be reviewed during their time in the Haven. As part of this dedicated team you will assist in standardised procedures relating to individual service users, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. As a health care support worker will be part of the ward based clinical team and will have a key role to play in developing and fostering a therapeutic relationship with service users to develop a culture of recovery Main duties of the job Support therapeutic relationship with service users through engagement and activities as deemed appropriate to the client group Provide activities to groups or individuals to meet their recovery needs as identified by the primary nurse and/or Occupational Therapist. Participating in service user observations and reporting any changes to senior staff as required. Record observations and changes to a service users presentation. Work effectively as a member of the team. Liaise with other members of the team. Ensure the privacy, dignity and confidentially of service users, relatives and carers is respected at all times. Review and reflect on your own practice through regular supervision and profession development. Be compliant with Trust and local policies.
