What is a Conversational English Volunteer?
Conversational English Volunteers help to support families and individuals who do not have English as a first language to enjoy and improve their conversational English. This can be through having everyday conversations in community venues such as libraries and community centres and other interaction such as assisting with homework or visiting in the home.

What’s involved?
● Completing Basic Safeguarding Child and Adult Protection Training.
● Becoming familiar with and then following the Canterbury City Council’s relevant policies and procedures
● Agreeing what opportunities there will be for working with the families with the named contact on a regular basis
● Meeting the Individual or family in an agreed location suitable to all of you.
● Supporting with English homework and understanding British culture.
● Attend regular one-to-one sessions with your named contact.
Time Commitment
Flexible to be agreed with the individual, family and Canterbury City Council Resettlement Officer.
This role will suit people… Who are enthusiastic, patient and welcoming. You will have an interest in working with families and individuals who require support with practising spoken English. This role may require some lone working and the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
