The opportunity
Fleet Safety Case Assurance provides expert assurance to the Head of Design Authority that the Licence Conditions they are responsible for are being discharged in a fit for purpose manner. This is done through three primary focus areas:
- Governance & Oversight of the enactment of the Maintain Design Integrity (MDI) Process,
- Supporting the delivery of adequately rigorous, fit for purpose safety cases,
- Supporting proportionate organisational response to safety case driven risks.
The Maintain Design Integrity (MDI) Process is one of the top tier Company Processes identified in the Management System Manual. The purpose of the MDI Process is to underwrite continued nuclear safety through the production of technically robust documentation (safety cases).
This role will be based out of Gloucester Business Park, working to a hybrid model with 2 days in the office per week. Some travel around the fleet will be required.

We can offer a competitive salary from £71,101
- £98,004 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. You will be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

What you'll be doing
As the Safety Case Assurance Lead, you will:
- Implement significant changes to the MDI Process by delivery of the Safety Case Development Improvement Programme,
- Work closely with the Fleet Safety Case Assurance Group Head and the MDI Fleet Manager to look for opportunities to both further improve the MDI Process and to improve how the safety case practitioners across the business implement the Process,
- Identify and drive safety case management (SCM) related training improvements through leadership of the SCM Curriculum Review Committee (CRC).
- Identify and perform safety case assurance activities to support fit for purpose safety case delivery across the nuclear fleet.
Who you are
This position requires an individual with significant experience in nuclear safety case management and production; and who has the skills to coach, influence and consult on a wide range of safety case practices: technically, process-wise and behaviourally; at all levels of the organisation; and will often require leadership on process and behavioural alignment with the Office of Nuclear Regulator (ONR).
We are looking for you to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Post holder will be qualified to Degree level in a technical or engineering field (or acceptable International equivalent) and have attained, or be working towards, Chartered Engineer or equivalent status in an appropriate professional body.
- Intermediate project and programme management skills.
- MDI Process implementation knowledge.
- Good knowledge of the EC process and other MDI sub-processes (e.g. PSR, NSC, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Current experience with the Management of Safety Cases, e.g. Case Officer or holder of other senior SCM roles is highly desirable.
- Experience of participating in peer groups at stations or within central functions.
- Knowledge of the Systematic Approach to Training process as applied within the corporate functions
- Comfortable to support the MDI Fleet Manager in challenge up to the highest levels of the organisation to hold the company accountable for MDI related issues.
