About the Role
We are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to take ownership of programming, diagnosing, and optimising electrical control systems across a wide range of products. This role offers hands-on involvement in system design, troubleshooting, and electrical modifications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programming & Testing – Develop, configure, and test electrical systems for a diverse range of products.
2. Fault Diagnosis – Identify and resolve electrical and programming-related issues within build, test, and service.
3. CAN Communication – Work with CANopen and J1939 protocols for system integration and optimisation.
4. Parameter Setting – Configure sensors, nodes, telematics, displays, and other system components.
5. Documentation & Reporting – Create technical documents, maintain data sheets, and log programming updates.
6. PLC Programming & Circuit Modifications – Design and develop new systems, ensuring efficient control processes.
7. Field Support – Assist service teams with troubleshooting, including occasional travel across the UK and internationally.
8. Workload Management – Prioritise daily tasks and ensure smooth execution of projects.
What We’re Looking For
1. Degree or relevant qualification in electrical engineering, control systems, or PLC programming.
2. Experience with CAN communication & J1939 protocol is essential.
3. Knowledge of CoDeSys 2.3 / 3.5 is desirable.
4. Strong fault-finding skills within electrical systems.
5. Ability to read electrical schematics & wiring diagrams.
6. Keen problem solver with a strong learning mindset.
7. Confident communicator with the ability to explain technical issues to teams and engineers.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
