Overview
Under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Nurse, performs various duties assisting nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established nursing standards. These duties may include assisting nurses, unit secretary/monitor technician, phlebotomy, or EKG.
Responsibilities
Under direction of the RN, provides direct patient care utilizing patient plan of care. Clinical skills may include, but are not limited to, the following: obtaining and recording in the EHR blood pressure, pulse, temperature and pulse oximetry; drawing blood; performing EKG; transporting patients; obtaining urine and stool specimens; performing point of care testing; assisting with ED procedures; measuring and assisting in applying sling, cervical collar, splints, and crutches; bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding; observing; and reporting the general well-being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care. Critical thinking skills are required for documentation of patient reassessments accurately and correctly within specific timeframes. Reassess patient safety facts and identify those patients requiring special safety devices. Report test results as required to RN and notify MD in a timely manner of abnormal results. Critical values are reported immediately. Reassess educational needs of the patient/significant other and provide appropriate written and verbal instruction. Document on teaching form and modify as needed. Transcription of orders and other duties per licensure.
Qualifications
* Minimum one year Emergency Department or Critical Care experience

* Clear communication skills both written and verbal
* Able to keep confidential information regarding patients and team members
* Able to withstand crisis situations
* Skills to provide customer service to patients, team members, and visitors
* Knowledge and experience with electronic health records
Credentials
* BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
* PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred)
Education
* LPN or NREMT-P (Nationally Registered Paramedic)
