Scope of the role The Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety function are responsible providing frameworks and support to ensure that FFE’s operations run safely, and that product meet the highest quality standards. The team own the business IMS (Integrated Management System) which ensures that our business practices meet the requirements of our ISO certificates as well as remaining complaint to our wide-ranging Fire Safety approvals, Atex approvals and Part 21.G aviation approvals. The team have responsibility to ensure that there are processes in place to manage safety and that departmental managers are held to account in maintaining these processes. They are also responsible for monitoring, measuring and improving product quality. This role will have a significant amount of hands-on day to day issue resolution and management however it’s key challenge will be to rescope FFE’s approach to safety and quality driving significant improvement in performance. The Head of Quality will be part of the operational leadership team reporting directly to the Operations Director but will have extended responsibilities to the other functions and will hold responsibility for Quality, Environment, Health and Safety across FFE Hitchin (HQ & manufacturing), FFE TECE (Test and engineering centre of excellence) and FFE US (warehousing and logistics). Develop the team including skills and succession planning. Design the future state of the function to support growth. Support the wider business in designing scalable processes to deliver business growth Monitor compliance to quality standards managing non-conformities to resolution Monitor overall business quality performance working across the teams to drive continuous improvement. Set targets and develop action plans to achieve measurable improvements. Participate in strategy development to grow the FFE business. Skills & Experience Experience in a quality function within a regulated industry. (Fire Safety or aviation preferred). Experience leading a team/direct management role. Experience within a design and manufacture environment. Engineering background (qualification or experience working within an engineering role desirable) Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 18001 standards. NEBOSH or other safety qualifications desirable. Experience managing change within an organisation. Practical experience with large problem-solving activities. Training in problem solving methodologies. Experience in lean methodologies and poke-yoke design. Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills across a range of media (written, verbal etc) Experience working in a hybrid team desirable. Experience with Cognidox, SharePoint online, Microsoft PowerApps, power BI or BC365 desirable. Behaviours Strong coaching skills to drive development across the team. Curious nature.
