Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work with two specialist teams in the Children's Hospital, Oxford, as a member of the regional cleft centre and supra-regional craniofacial unit.
The Spires Cleft Centre and The Oxford Craniofacial Unit provide surgery and outpatient services to children and young people with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial conditions respectively, from birth into adulthood. You will be joining friendly teams to support the delivery of multidisciplinary care in outpatient clinics and wards, and in particular to the specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) team.
Ideally you will have previous experience of working in a therapy or healthcare setting. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and flexible with excellent communication skills. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
1. Support the administrative work of the SLT team and take responsibility for specific tasks, i.e. organisation of routine appointments, clinic preparation, equipment maintenance, training events, resource management.
2. Assist SLTs in their clinical audit activities including data entry.
3. Set up and support specialist SLT and multidisciplinary clinics.
4. Work alongside SLTs and other team members.
5. Liaise with the cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary and administrative teams to support all aspects of patient care and service delivery.

Job responsibilities
1. To carry out administration tasks related to clinical work: sending patient letters, data input and scanning, patient pathway monitoring, developing and organising resource materials.
2. To assist the clinical team with audit and research activities for local and national projects.
3. To assist the clinical team to deliver clinical care to patients by co-ordinating appointments.
4. To assist in the smooth running of clinical review/audit clinics by organising the patients to see different members of the multidisciplinary team in a timely manner.
5. To set up specialty specific clinics including checking equipment for use in clinics.
6. To use creative skills to help with the development and preparation of resources/equipment for therapeutic activities.
7. To communicate with parents/carers ensuring communication is sensitive and tailored to the needs of the individual.
8. To engage with patients and families, and assist with patient feedback/questionnaires/assessments.
9. To work autonomously but acknowledge own limitations/know when to seek clinical advice.
10. To assist clinicians and support the delivery of interventions/assessments.
11. To contribute to team meetings and take meeting minutes.
12. To work in a collaborative and a co-operative manner with other health professionals and relevant agencies.
13. To help with the organisation of locally/nationally run speech therapy training courses.
14. To contribute to the wider team discussions regarding service developments.
15. To assist with updating the Spires Cleft service website and patient information leaflets.
Person Specification
Essential
1. 5 GCSE's or equivalent NVQ 3 or equivalent.
2. Experience of working with children in a health or education setting.
3. Experience of working as part of a team.
4. Effective time management and prioritising skills.
5. IT literate, competent in Microsoft Office.
6. Able to work independently and follow through agreed plans.
7. Ability to travel occasionally to other clinic sites/meetings regionally and occasionally nationally.
Desirable
1. Experience of working with children or adults with complex needs/learning disabilities.
