Spectra is seeking two HIV Peer Support Workers to deliver structured peer support, advice and referrals for people living with HIV, as well as support our HIV Prevention service. It is essential that Peer Support workers demonstrate a willingness to professionally use their lived experience to support the recovery journey of others and as such should be comfortable to share their status with clients, colleagues and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate individual and group peer support sessions at a community site providing resources and information to service users.
* Work with the multidisciplinary team to provide emotional and practical peer support to service users in order to motivate engagement, build self-esteem and confidence.
* Support newly diagnosed and existing patients regarding adjustment to HIV diagnosis including, but not limited to, issues around confidentiality and disclosure.
* Provide harm reduction and safer sex supplies, written resources, support, education, and guidance to peer group attendees.
* Monitor outcomes of peer support sessions and contribute to regular reporting. Support coordination and delivery of training to professionals working in or with service users in target boroughs to improve access to inclusive sexual healthcare.
Skills and Qualities:
* Experience of having established effective self-management in relation to life as a person with an HIV diagnosis.
* Paid or unpaid working experience in health and social care.
* Excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills.
* Experience of developing good working relationships with clients and maintaining professional boundaries.
* Ability to maintain positive working relationships with voluntary and statutory partner agencies.
* Knowledge of issues affecting people living with HIV, especially health service-access related.
This role mainly works in NorthWest London, with some hybrid working flexibilities, including being based at Spectra’s office in Ladbroke Grove twice a month.
