Head of Design - Livingston To £75,000 DOE Competitive Package Our client is a well-established industry leader specialising in the manufacturing, supply, and installation of high-quality windows, doors, and external insulation systems for the commercial building sector. Due to continued growth, the company is now looking for Head of Design to establish and lead the design function and its associated supply chain, ensuring alignment with business objectives and growth strategies. As Head of Design you will be managing commercial & operational aspects of design and engineering function including design costing, resource and capacity planning, and internal design coordination while managing external resource performance to ensure on-time design delivery, you will also lead business activity forecasting, technical compliance, KPI reporting, and maintain strong customer relationships across all project phases. Key Responsibilities & Requirements: Lead the design and development of projects ensuring alignment with requirements of the Building Safety Act and Construction Design Management Regulations. Manage internal and external design projects from conception through to completion monitoring progress and resolve design-related issues and conflicts. Work closely with managers, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure seamless design execution and manage implementation of changes to policy and procedure in collaboration with other departmental heads. Ensure the availability of all necessary resources to execute planned works efficiently, preventing delays and maintaining project timelines. Work closely with the Procurement and Compliance Team, identify, secure, appoint, and manage external design resources in line with business growth. Oversee the development of detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Track, analyse, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project progress, resource efficiency, and overall performance ensuring data-driven insights are used to optimise processes and support business objectives. Communicate design concepts & progress including design changes, approvals, and project records to senior management. Track and manage design errors and quality-related costs, identify root causes, and implement or update procedures to prevent recurrence. Degree in Engineering/Architecture or related field. 5 years' experience in managing design projects and leading design teams with high level of CAD and Building Information Modelling (BIM) knowledge. Proficiency in interpreting and effectively communicating drawings, solutions, and technical literature to relevant stakeholders. Experience in windows, faades, fenestration, and good knowledge of faade calculations is desirable. Proficiency in design software and tools. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
