Summary
The role of the Assistant Finance Apprenticeship is to support the Town Clerk/CEO and Director of Finance & Corporate Services and ensure that financial control is maintained. You will be supported by the team to gain valuable experience and recognised qualifications.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Administrative Tasks
* To provide administrative support to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services and help with the smooth running of the office and finance administration
* To ensure that all invoices raised and receipts received are correct in respect of any VAT requirements
* To raise purchase orders and create new supplier accounts.
* To process and check invoices for goods and services to be paid for by the council and to ensure such accounts are settled in a timely manner
* To review supplier statements to ensure that invoices have ben received and paid in a timely manner
* Ensure that the budget coding structure of the Council is correctly used by budget holders
* Monitoring the finance email inbox and handling any emails relevant to the role
* Monitoring aged debtors and carrying out credit control
* Assisting with Finance Administration as required
* Ensuring compliance with the Financial Regulations
* To receive enquires from members of the public and to handle in a polite and professional manner
* Enter data into electronic systems as required, following appropriate training
* Filing and archiving (maintaining records, filing systems, photocopying)
* Maintain good lines of communication with the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, the Democratic Services and Officer Manager and all other staff and Councillors
* To attend training courses on the work and role as required
* To undertake specific projects from time to time at the request of the Director of Finance and Corporate Services
* To be a supportive and innovative member of the council team.

* Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
* Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
* Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
* Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
* Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
* Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
* Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
* Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
* Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
* Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
