Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £40,000 to £44,000 per annum
Shift Pattern: 6am to 2pm / 2pm to 10pm / Any 5 days out of 7 / Night shift may occur for emergency call outs
Job Purpose:
To ensure all production machinery and equipment remain fully operational while performing general site maintenance in line with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) systems and business requirements. Additionally, to manage and maintain building services systems.
Key Responsibilities:
⦁ Carry out reactive breakdown repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise downtime.
⦁ Diagnose and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical systems, including: Inverter drives, PLCs, Power supply units (PSUs), Conveyors, Multi-head weighers, Check weighers, Flow wrappers, Over-wrapping machines, Gas flush machines, Other associated equipment
⦁ Perform routine maintenance on plant and services, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
⦁ Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Company policies in line with current regulations and legislation.
⦁ Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing techniques.
⦁ Operate and maintain building services systems, including refrigeration, fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, air handling, air conditioning, and computerised Building Management Systems.
⦁ Work efficiently within a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment, including shifts, weekends, and sole site engineering coverage as required.
Technical Requirements:
⦁ Multi-skilled engineer with proven experience in electrical fault finding and control circuits.
⦁ Background in a fast-paced Food or Automotive manufacturing environment, capable of handling multiple tasks.
⦁ Strong understanding of electrical distribution and control systems.
⦁ Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
⦁ IEE 17th/18th Edition qualification (preferred).
⦁ Experience programming and fault-finding PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs, and other logic systems.
⦁ Knowledge of instrumentation and building management control systems.
⦁ Hands-on experience with 3-phase electrical systems, DC control circuits, and safety circuits.
⦁ Competency in mechanical engineering tasks, including fabrication, welding, motor repairs, gearbox repairs, and plumbing.
⦁ Experience managing TPM systems, statutory compliance, and Health & Safety systems within a food production environment.
Qualifications & Certifications:
⦁ HNC or equivalent in Engineering (essential).
⦁ IEE 17th/18th Edition (desirable).
⦁ Additional training/certifications desirable:
⦁ MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform)
⦁ FLT (Forklift Truck)
⦁ IOSH/NEBOSH Health & Safety certification
⦁ Food Safety certification
