Shift Chemist County Durham Flavours and Fragrances Major Talent is partnered with a global player within the flavours and fragrance industry who have facilities throughout North America, Asia, and the UK. We are looking to speak with Chemists for an open Shift Chemist position. Experience with flavours and/or fragrances is ideal, however, we are open to industry, what is essential is that you have experience with organic chemistry. As a Shift Chemist, you will be responsible for the operation of the process and associated equipment within the designated area in accordance with standard operating procedures and process work instructions ensuring that problems are anticipated and acted on to minimise consequences and delays against planned production levels. Shift/ working hours are- 2 days x 12 hours, 2 nights x 12 hours than 4 days off Responsibilities as a Shift Chemist To have read and understood the company safety policy and ensure the safe operation of the plant and designated areas to comply with the policy's objectives. Ensure that quality food safety standards as defined by the company standard are adhered to as necessary To ensure designated areas are maintained in clean and safe working conditions. Ensure that all prescribed safety clothing and equipment are used correctly and are maintained in a clean condition and in good working order. Report all incidents and unsafe conditions and contribute to investigations and follow-up actions as necessary To understand and ensure compliance with the company's environmental and waste policy, minimising the environmental impact of chemical manufacture and associated activities. To ensure that waste generated from manufacturing is managed and disposed of in compliance with company policy. Ensure the efficient processing of products about raw materials, labour, plant occupancy and plant utilisation safely. Ensure that the designated plant is maintained safely and operationally by liaison with maintenance. Ensure that the production plan is followed whilst on shift, modifying it, if necessary, after consultation with production management and/or planning. Be accountable for the full and comprehensive recording of process information and adherence to process work instructions. Maintain and set good housekeeping standards within the designated areas whilst on shift. Monitor processing for non-conformances and report such to the Production Manager. Be accountable for variances against standard yields and times. Where required, to be involved in the documentation, development and scale-up of new processes from the R&D and Process Support departments. To provide support and guidance to the supervisor when required. Be responsible for training and development of operational staff concerning standard operating procedures, equipment instructions and process work instructions. Ensure the safe and complete handover of the designated areas to the oncoming shift. Whilst accepting the role of a working chemist to ensure that additional duties that may be reasonably assigned to the chemist are fully carried out and adequately handed over to the oncoming shift. Skills required to be a Shift Chemist : Essential - Graduate Degree Chemist Desirable - PHD Chemist Operational experience in organic chemistry processing. Desirable - Process knowledge of sulphur and heterocyclic-containing materials. Laboratory experience Good laboratory practice and knowledge of modern organic chemistry What's in it for you?
