Duties and Responsibilities Utilise and ensure efficient use of the appointment system and monitor the flow of patients into consulting rooms in accordance with the established practice procedures. Ensure that patients without appointments but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive way. Answer the emergency telephone. Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensure procedures are completed. Inform patients of relevant charges, accept payment and issue receipts for same. Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and visitors. Action requests for ambulance/car transportation and enter details appropriately on the system. Enter visits on to the visit list including all relevant information and where necessary refer to triage. Print of visits for the day. Become familiar with all appointment systems in effect including regular and incidental variations. Handling of specimens, blood tests, forms etc. taking into account Health and Safety measures. To update patient records with medical and personal information as required. To ensure all sample packs, registration packs are fully stocked. To be able to register a new patient, either as permanent or temporary To have flexibility to cover for holiday absences and sickness of colleagues. Ensure that tasks are done when telephones are quiet or on task desk. To perform ancillary clerical tasks, as requested, by the partners or Practice Manager
