Key Tasks and Responsibilities for a Science Technician:
1. Collection of equipment and chemicals from storage and their organisation.
2. Preparing experiment, assembling apparatus and equipment for demonstrations and class use as requested.
3. Returning the apparatus and equipment at the end of use.
4. Checking and maintaining materials and equipment, before and after use, for quality and damage.
5. Collection of stationary materials used by dept.
6. Arranging for photocopying of exam papers, tests, lab rules etc. as required.
7. General cleaning duties to ensure the laboratories and equipment meet health and safety requirement.
8. Carry out any other reasonable requested made by the Senior Science Technician or the Director for Science.
9. Assist with the distribution and collection of ICT equipment and books.
10. Carry out risk assessments for technician activities.
11. Keep up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development.
12. Keep up to date with health and safety requirements and developments in practical science.
13. The provision of technical advice on health and safety issues to teachers and students.
14. The safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards.
