We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Chief Registrar (Fellow) in Medicine, with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement for a 1 year appointment starting October 2025.
The role provides senior trainees with 40% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Learning that Chief Registrars gain from the Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP’s) bespoke development programme will be put into practice in a supported environment that provides autonomy, flexibility and support to develop and support projects that address key local challenges and priorities. This may include service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce, and sustainability.
You will also spend 60% of the time undertaking clinical activities within the Acute Medical Unit. You will be part of an enthusiastic and dynamic team that aims to deliver excellent patient care and experience within its acute services. You will be part of our large team of doctors, managers and emergency staff and will have full access to the training and development opportunities available within our general and tertiary referral centre.
The post is primarily aimed at a doctor in a national training programme who would like to take a year out during their higher training, however other candidates may be considered who have at least 12 months previous experience in the NHS in an acute care specialty.
The Chief Registrar role is a leadership role for senior specialty trainees in the medicine division, within Acute Medicine. The role provides 40% protected time to develop and implement local initiatives focusing on, for example, service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce and sustainability.
The role carries responsibility for quality improvement and education and will also contribute to, or lead, local service re-design and workforce transformation activity. Chief Registrars are emergent leaders of the future and it is anticipated that they will continue training in leadership and management after receiving their CCT. There will also be the opportunity to work towards a recognised accreditation from the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
