About the role.
Palmerston School is seeking to appoint a full time caretaker to work as part of the schools premises team. Potentially working across all of our sites to enable the school to provide a suitable & safe environment for all of our pupils. School sites currently located in Aigburth & Woolton.
Ideally, candidates will have knowledge & experience of supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties.
A full, clean drivers licence is essential, and all candidates must be willing and able to drive & maintain all of the schools vehicles.
The successful candidate will also be required to maintain the schools hydro pool(s). Previous experience of maintaining pool plant equipment is preferred, but relevant training will be provided.

Main purpose of the role
To undertake a range of caretaking and site management duties including security and supervision of the site and related equipment, and other duties including porterage, cleaning and maintenance.

Core responsibilities and tasks
In addition to or in place of role level 1:
1. Take responsibility for the security of the premises and its contents in the absence of the Head teacher and Deputy Head teacher or any other designated responsible person.
2. Take responsibility for the use, maintenance and security of plant, machinery and equipment based at the school.
3. Operate and monitor heating, plumbing and electrical systems in accordance with instructions and current safety legislation and recommend better use of such systems.
4. Monitor and order supplies of consumables and to ensure that deliveries are made in accordance with invoices.
5. Oversee schedules and routine maintenance liaising with contractors and suppliers as necessary.
6. Monitor standards of work undertaken by outside agencies and make routine reports.
7. Supervise staff.
8. Assist in the recruitment and training of cleaning staff.

Role Level 1
1. Act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and groundsand the routine and non-routine opening of premises and grounds and responding toemergency calls outside normal working hours.
2. Deal with enquiries from external contractors on site.
3. Undertake additional cleaning to support the Cleaners.
4. Carry out general first line repairs redecoration and maintenance.
5. Take delivery of stocks and materials for the school.
6. Carry out porterage within school, move furniture and equipment, as required, assistin setting up for assemblies events etc.
7. Ensure that adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other supplies are available.
8. Operate the heating plant.
9. Ensure that all caretaking and cleaning equipment is in a safe and working conditionand arranging for repair as appropriate.
10. Carry out routine procedures or checks on ancillary equipment.
11. Carry out school based emergency procedures e.g. in the event of fire.
12. Assist with the supervision and training of cleaning staff in the absence of/as requested by a Senior Caretaker/Site Manager/Head.
13. Undertake letting and related duties where required.
14. Prepare the school premises and site for out of school activities.
15. Report any damage and assist in organising any necessary repairs.
16. Ensure that access and main areas are safe.
